Major redevelopment brings new retail options to Canberra community

Located in the heart of the Canberra CBD, the Canberra Centre shopping mall recently expanded its sizeable centre with the redevelopment of the iconic Monaro Mall. Opened in 1963, Monaro Mall has a rich history and the redevelopment aimed to restore many of the original features while bringing modern architecture and retail opportunities to the city.

Having completed numerous projects at the Canberra Centre, Benmax were awarded the mechanical services contract for the staged project by Bloc Pty Ltd.  Works included a major refurbishment of the existing ground floor and the development of an expanded first floor with the team successfully completing the project in late 2017. The site now offers an expansive beauty and wellness precinct, along with a dedicated lifestyle and homewares quarter.

Benmax remained on site following the opening of the new mall undertaking numerous fit-outs for stores opening in the precinct and for those relocating from elsewhere in the centre including David Jones, Husk, Le Creuset, Robinson Books, The Body Shop, The Pen Boutique and Gewurzhaus.
