Project Details
Home to the professional ACT Brumbies Rugby sports team, University of Canberra (UoC) and a range of sport and recreation organisations, the UoC Sporting Commons Facility is located in Bruce, Canberra.
Designed to the university’s strict brief for a comfortable environment, built on a budget and to the highest standards possible, the $16 million two storey building consists of administration offices, indoor gymnasium, running track, training spaces, rehabilitation and change room facilities. Working with Shaw Building Group, Benmax delivered the mechanical services for the dynamic multipurpose space.
Features of the building include large open areas and feature ceilings, with the HVAC mechanical services supported by a natural ventilation system to provide energy saving efficiencies and additional comfort when external conditions are optimised. Automated glazed louvres, designed into the façade, utilise the stack effect and rooms having traffic light systems to let users know when the outside air conditions suit opening windows.
