Major refurbishment brings iconic Coombs Building back to life
Home to the College of Asia and the Pacific, Benmax was part of the project team assembled by Shaw Building Group to complete a major refurbishment of the Coombs Building located at the Australian National University in Canberra.
The iconic three storey facility comprises of three interlinked hexagon shaped buildings and upgrade works were staged across several years to accommodate the challenging project. To ensure the revitalised facility would meet the needs of staff and students, the College spent several years working with the contracted architect and builder, the University and the National Capital Authority to plan the project.
The Benmax team were tasked with improving temperature conditions and management across the buildings, in addition to the mechanical services works needed for upgrade of the entrance, foyer and Student Centre, new common facilities including kitchens, upgraded teaching and administration spaces, and improved amenities.
