Benmax has secured the contract to deliver mechanical services for the University of Otago Dental School redevelopment. The NZ$130 million project, to be managed by a Leighs Cockram joint venture, is the largest capital redevelopment the University has ever undertaken and will see the development of a new 8,000 sqm clinical services building and refurbishment of the existing 10,000 sqm Walsh Building.

The new facility will house clinical services featuring an innovative surgery design for general practice dentistry, together with a variety of specialist dental clinics, in addition to flexible learning spaces, dentistry-specific teaching laboratories, academic accommodation and a new home for the Sir John Walsh Research Institute.

Stage one of the project is now complete with the official opening of the new construction taking place on 11 June 2019. The impressive four-storey hospital grade building is the largest and most complex project the university has undertaken in its 150 year history.

Work is continuing on the refurbishment of the Walsh Building and will see the Benmax team onsite until 2019.
