Following damage sustained in the 2011 earthquakes, the Christchurch Town Hall precinct is undergoing a significant refurbishment and restoration project to ensure the iconic building is modernised and aligned with current compliance and building codes. In addition to the restoration works and significant ground strengthening activities occurring at the site, a new three storey building is being constructed to create a permanent home base for the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra (CSO).

The new building will provide administration, operational and rehearsal spaces for the CSO, along with public facilities and dedicated event management space. Connecting into all three levels of the existing Town Hall, the building will bring the facility up to modern standards and provide Christchurch with a premier performance venue. Benmax will complete the mechanical services for the new construction and is expected to complete work on the project in early 2019.
