Castle Towers Shopping Centre - Stage 2

Located in Castle Hill, Sydney, the Castle Towers Shopping Centre is currently undergoing a major transformation that when complete will see it become Australia’s second largest shopping precinct. With an estimated 18 million visitors per year, work is being delivered in stages to minimise the disruption to tenants and patrons and Benmax is pleased to be a partner on this large multistage development project.

Working alongside Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) and Construction Control, Benmax has delivered numerous projects at the site over recent years including several stages of enabling works, various tenancy and amenities upgrades, refurbishment and expansion of retail spaces, and upgrade works in The Piazza alfresco dining and entertainment precinct.

The largest of the projects delivered to date has been the mechanical services contract for Stage 2 Enabling Works won by the team in late 2016. This project included the demolition of three existing plant rooms, the construction of two new plant rooms and the extensive associated mechanical services work all while the centre remained open and operational.

One of the major challenges of the project was maintaining uninterrupted operation of the Centre’s cooling conditions whilst the team constructed and reconfigured multiple new central energy plants within the same occupied space as the demolished plant rooms. The work of the Benmax digital engineering team in utilising BIM and 3D viewing platforms greatly assisted the site team and broader project partners to coordinate the work programme to ensure supply was maintained to the Centre while the work was successfully completed.

Benmax completed work on this stage of the project in early 2018 and has gone on to deliver further stages of work in the major redevelopment project.
