Bishopdale Library opens to the community

Our Benmax NZ team recently completed work on the construction of the new Bishopdale Library and Community Centre in Christchurch. Awarded the mechanical services contract for the project by Hawkins Interiors, Benmax started the install in March 2017 and successfully made handover in July 2017.

The former library facility (now demolished) was closed in November 2011, after it sustained substantial damage in the Christchurch earthquakes. The recent official opening of the new building marked a significant milestone for the local community. The facility provides a valuable meeting space for locals and offers a 330sqm library space, meeting room and community hall, along with kitchen and toilet facilities.

Mechanical works for the project mainly comprised of an exposed ducted installation combined with refrigeration heat pumps, large package air handling units and a mix of round and square ducting.  While a relatively small project in terms of physical size (800 sqm single-storey construction), the project presented the Benmax team with some challenges along the way, however the finish and interior is exceptional in aesthetics.
